If you are just starting a new business that needs a website, or if you have an existing business and have been paying someone to keep your website updated...you need to read on!
Why?
Because you MUST have a website, or you are leaving money on the table that could be yours. Any business that wants to compete in this day and age needs to have a web presence and must make time to get involved with social media marketing.
You do have a few options.
-
You can pay a webmaster to design a new site for you, and pay them every time you need an update.
-
You can learn to program in PHP, FLASH or HTML and design it yourself.
Let's look at those two options a little closer.
-
Pay a webmaster:
-
Initial cost can be prohibitive to a small business.
-
Updates can get expensive, especially if your site needs to be updated regularly.
-
Updates can take days, weeks or more to get completed.
-
Webmasters typically have 10+ clients that they do work for, so getting to you make take some time.
-
Small businesses need to move quickly when opportunities arise, so they need to change their website quickly to get a jump on competition. Waiting on your webmaster can cause you to lose that competitive edge.
- Learn to code in different languages, such as PHP, FLASH, CSS, Javascript and HTML:
-
This is very technical, and can take years to really be good enough to do what you need.
-
Technology changes quickly. You'll need to keep up with the programming changes.
-
You really need to love this stuff to want to keep learning it.
OK, there is a third option that I need to tell you about.
Until recently, I was one of those webmasters that was doing it the hard way...learning web design, coding and all of the technical stuff. I was also juggling multiple clients, and trying to get their updates done in a timely fashion.
Then, I came across a tool that is changing EVERYTHING for me. It's called WordPress. What a lifesaver!
At first, I thought it was just for blogging. Then I began to see that I could make virtually ANY type of website using WordPress. Wow, my life has not been the same since.
Why? Let me list a few reasons why I fell in love with WordPress.
-
Most WordPress sites start from a basic template, where the structure and layout is already done, so you are not starting your site from scratch. This is a hugh time savings.
-
The look of the site can be changed very easily using cascading style sheets or CSS for short. You can take one template and make 100's of sites that look completely different, just from changing the style sheet.
-
WordPress itself is FREE. There are 1000's of FREE templates that you can use. There are also lots of Premium or "paid" templates that are still relatively inexpensive, but can save you hours of time.
-
Widget and Plugins can be installed without knowing HTML or PHP coding. These widgets and plugins add functionality to your site that would be very expensive to develop on your own.
-
Google and other search engines LOVE fresh content. WordPress blog posts can be found in Google in as little as 10-20 minutes after posting the new article. WOW! Google loves WordPress.
-
You can have the prettiest website in the world, but if it can't be found by Google, what good is it? These sites get indexed immediately by Google and you WILL get ranked if you follow my instructions.
-
Did I say your site will rank well in Google? Well, it was worth mentioning again.

How Much Is This Worth To You?
What would you pay a webmaster to build you a nice website? My experience is that you would pay between $1500 - $4000 for a nice professional site. You could even pay as much as $10,000 or more. But you should be able to find a good web designer in the $1500 - $4000 range. Now keep in mind, that if you don't know how to update the site that they build for you, you'll also have to keep paying them an hourly rate to update it each time it needs new content. So your annual cost could get pretty expensive.
As you can see from the numbers below, I have decided to make this very affordable. Now you can learn how to build and maintain your own site, and never be held hostage by your webmaster again. But keep in mind, these prices will not be around for long. Below is the training schedule.
